Winter- A snowbound retreat
**Driving to the lodge in the winter months is NOT an option- we are completely SNOWBOUND!**
Our winter parking area and trailhead is 4 miles from the front door. Embark on a great adventure and xc ski, skin or snowshoe to the lodge.
We are a backcountry lodge. All guests are responsible for accessing the lodge under their own power. Just like the Sierra Club huts, we do not offer guest transport services on snowmobiles or snowcats. The trail is not groomed or well marked. While there are Innkeepers on the property to maintain the lodge and keep the electricity going, they are not responsible for assisting guests on the trail. If you get lost, they will not be able to help you find your way. DO NOT attempt to arrive after dark, especially if you've never been here before. You will get lost, and possibly have to spend the night on the trail. Do not make a reservation if you're not confident everyone in your party can navigate the 4 mile trail through deep snow and over creek crossings which may or may not have a bridge.
Guests who have access to their own snowmobile can access the lodge from the Cabin Creek trailhead off of hwy 89, between Truckee and Squaw Valley.
Explore the canyon:
Get your A/T gear or split board out and prepare for an excellent backcountry experience. We can recommend a cat skiing company that will pick you up from the lodge.
Explore the canyon with snowshoes
Bring your ice climbing gear and scale the north facing ice falls tucked deeper in the canyon.
Keep the home fires burning:
If getting here is enough of a wintry adventure for you, there is plenty to keep you happy here at the lodge.
Play chef in the gourmet kitchen
Challenge your friends to one of the many games in the living room
Pick up your favorite instrument, or learn how to play one
Settle into a cozy chair by the fireplace and lose yourself in great book. Is that a glass of wine or cup of coco you have there?
Set up a snow sculpture contest in the front yard- there’s enough snow for everyone!
